I came up with the idea for these cards so that teachers could lead discussions, specifically with younger students, about what they should do in different emergency scenarios. These are meant to be age appropriate, teacher led discussions about emergency preparedness.

If nothing else to become more aware of their surroundings before they conduct drills and are asked to make split second decisions.

This document outlines key response options for school staff during an active threat situation: Run, Hide, or Fight. It provides clear guidance on when to evacuate, how to effectively lockdown and barricade, and what to do if forced to physically defend oneself—all with the goal of preserving life and maximizing safety until law enforcement arrives. This can be used during trainings and drills to become familiar with protocols.

This flyer emphasizes that all school staff are empowered to take immediate action during emergencies, including pulling the fire alarm, calling 911, or initiating active threat procedures when necessary. It reinforces that safety is a shared responsibility and encourages quick response through tools they have available. This helps remove the stigma of school staff afraid to take action.
